Vibrant designer Susan Korn, better known by her brand name Susan Alexandra, lives in a glittery candy-colored world of her own making. She’s been crafting bags with boxy handles, brightly colored beads, and matching jewelry for several years as they go viral thanks to celebrity endorsements from the Hadid sisters. Now, Korn is moving into a new niche and launching a small ready-to-wear line that incorporates her rainbow beading techniques. Debuting alongside her Spring 2020 accessories at New York Fashion Week tomorrow, the collection includes beaded bras and crop tops as well as pedal pushers and beaded pencil skirts. There are also playful beaded fruit-embroidered shirts and skirts that often decorate Susan Alexandra bags. Everything will be available on her website and all for under $500. “These are clothes that I wish I could wear to the bat mitzvah when I was 13 years old and are something I still want to own to this day,” says Korn. She had the idea of making ready-to-wear clothes for a while, but since designing clothes wasn’t her natural forte, she asked a close friend for help. Her partner on the project is a drag queen designer with the stage name Steak Diane. “He was able to help take my vision and turn it into clothing,” she notes. “Steak Diane is a great character and she’s on the show this year too. She is a bearded, redhead who describes herself as a ‘shrimp cocktail enthusiast, semi-professional drag artist, designer and tailor.’”
